IT’S OK TO FEEL STUCK WHEN LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE. LANGUAGE LEARNING PLATEAU
At some point in your learning journey, it is quite normal to feel stuck, especially after getting past the initial learning stage to the intermediate level. This is popularly referred to by language learners as the ‘language-learning plateau”. Naturally, at the beginning of your journey, you probably made quick and easy progress, due in part to the enthusiasm and excitement that come with learning the basics of something new. However, as soon as you get to an intermediate level on your learning journey, it is quite natural to slow down a little and stop making as much progress as you used to.
A language-learning plateau could occur due to several reasons, one of which could be meeting the goals you set out to accomplish at the beginning of your learning journey. For example, you probably started learning that language because you want to be able to hold basic conversation in it, and you can do that now. When this happens, it is quite normal to get stuck, because you have gotten what you wanted at the beginning, and it is quite unclear what to do next.
What you could do if you are experiencing this “stuck” feeling due to the above reason, is to SET NEW LEARNING GOALS. New (and particularly clear) goals will get you back in the game, and give you the right amount of focus you need to surge ahead on your learning journey. You reach new milestones and develop even better proficiency of your target language, how wonderful is that?
Do everything you can to make progress on your learning journey, you’ll be so much better for it!
